Varied and Alive is a solo exhibition featuring four massive installation pieces by Nancy Winship Milliken. The four sculptures—Pasture Song, Meadow Breath, Lake Bones, and Earth Glow—are interactive explorations of natural materials. Below are my photographs of the production of each piece, which have been used for various digital and print media for the Shelburne Museum and Nancy Winship Milliken Studio.
Pasture Song is a massive tapestry of horse hair that bends and flows in the wind.
Earth Glow is a curtain of spherical beeswax balls that glow under sunlight.
Meadow Breath is a felted wool hanging that contorts to its surroundings over time, and is in a constant state of adapting to the environment it lives within.
Lake Bones is an installation featuring dangling driftwood that hangs vertically, emulating the wood itself in its previous living form.
